The Wheel of Time

I designed and animated the advertising logo for Amazon's fantasy series The Wheel of Time. It was used as the Main Title for the trailers and TV spots for the show, as the print title for the new editions of the original book, and was even made into giant mechanical billboards in real life.
I built a highly-detailed 3D snake the coils itself into the logomark as a camera flies through it, before the words "The Wheel of Time" construct themselves before our eyes.






The shape drawn in light at the beginning is a subtle reference to the icon of the Aes Sedai, an order of magic-users from the mythology of the show.
The whole animation was built as a giant square and with the text in a separate 3D scene so that it could be easily be converted to a variety of different languages and aspect ratios. Renders as large as 20K pixels in width were done for the print campaign.
The snake was attached to a spiral-shaped helix to drive its animation as it coils. A separate helix that moves in tandum with the first drives the camera, to better control a smooth camera move.
